4.
TRAINING.
11
CORPS IST BATTERY.
Officer Commanding
Captain T. Addis Martin.
The season was divided into a "close period" from 1st
april to 30th September and an "intensi ve period" from 1st October
to 31st March, 1936.
During the "close period" work was carried out on the guns
at Belchers and although the progress was slow nevertheless the
lessons learnt assisted very appreciably when regular parades were
held in the second period.
Certain members volunteered to qualify as D.K./.
specialists which entailed going to Belchers on many occasions,
including Sundays. The result that all qualified speaks well ..
for Sergt. Watson who was in charge, and later to Bdr. Rees who
after qualifying early on himself helped in the instruction.
Second Lieut. Marshall, B..M.S. Moses, L/Bdr. Gamble and Gunner
Jones qualified. The examination was held at belchers Fort and was
taken by the Major I.G. and A. I.G.
During the "intensive period" parades lasting from 6 p.m.
to 8 p.m. were held twice a month at belchers Fort, and the
Engineer Company manned the lights in January and February. In
these two months real progress had been made and parades very well
attended. It was, therefore, possible to carry out a constructive
programme with a view to the two Camps pending in March.
These Camps wore held at Pak Sha Wan Friday, 28th
February to Sunday, 1st March, 1936, and Friday, 6th March to
Sunday, 8th March 1936- and were well attended. A very heavy
programme was carried out and everyone enjoyed the work. As regards
shooting the Battery fired on Saturday, 29th February by night
Regular R.E. manning the lights 159 rounds 3 pounder sub-calibre
and by day on Sunday March 1st 24 rounds 6" half charge. During the
second week-end 31 rounds 6" half charge were fired on Saturday
night March 7th, the Engineer Company manning the lights.
